The functionality Camtasia Studio has to offer can be divided into three categories: capture, edit, and produce. Say you want to create a video tutorial. The application provides you with the means and tools for making a video recording, editing the recording, and then producing the recording so you can share it with others. The simple truth of the matter is that you should go get Camtasia Studio if you need a properly good screen capture and video editing tool.

Camtasia Studio is available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and for Apple’s Mac OS X. If you want to use the application on your PC, make sure it meets the following system requirements: dual core processor or better, 2GB of RAM memory or more, 2GB of free disk space, 1024x768 display or greater, dedicated Windows-compatible sound card, mic and speaker, PowerPoint 2007 or newer for the Camtasia Studio Add-in for PowerPoint, Apple QuickTime 7.2 or later for MOV importing and producing, USB Web camera for camera video recording, Camtasia Relay Client Recorder for integration with Camtasia Relay, DirectX 9 compatible video adapter with 128 MB of video memory or greater and Pixel Shader 2.0 or later for GPU acceleration, Windows XP SP3 operating system or newer, including Windows 8.

A setup wizard will help you install Camtasia Studio on your Windows-powered machine. When you’re done and you launch the application for the first time, a Getting Started project will be loaded by default. Camtasia Studio is a complex application with lots of features under its belt, so I advise you to go through this project and get accustomed to the basics. If that isn’t enough, there’s a detailed Help file and there are multiple online tutorials to help you out.

As mentioned above, Camtasia Studio’s functionality can be broken down into three categories:
Capture – record the screen, record PowerPoint, record full screen, record a custom area of the screen, record with or without audio, record from webcam, hotkeys are supported, and more.
Edit – callouts, zoom-n-pan, add an audio soundrack, use transition effects, add cursor effects, add voice narration, import more videos and include them in the project, and more.
Produce and share – many production templates to choose from, create a custom template, multiple production settings to play with, save produced video locally, share video to screencast.com, share video to YouTube.

Camtasia Studio is not a free application, it is only free to try. You have 30 days at your disposal to evaluate the functionality it has to offer.

Camtasia Studio is a properly good screen capture and video editing tool. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more powerful application.

Pros

Camtasia Studio is available for Windows and Mac. A modern PC will easily meet Camtasia Studio’s system requirements. There are multiple resources to turn to: a Getting Started project, detailed help file, online tutorials. Camtasia Studio comes with a long list of useful features; it gives you all you need to capture, edit, produce, share videos.

Cons

30-day trial; nag screen.
